2nd Saturday Round-up: A roadmap for a colorful, musical outing

2nd Saturday returns this Saturday, so prepare for fun! This month I’m putting an extra focus on music to help celebrate Sacramento365.com’s Make it a Music Night campaign. To me, music and great art go together like movies and popcorn, so this 2nd Saturday roundup is more harmonious than ever! Here are a few ways you can get down while perusing some of the best art in town.

Pop-up Pub Party:
I’ll be starting off the day heading to the coolest one-day pub in town. Before heading back to Oregon, Deschutes Brewery will “pour it up” in Midtown with a 402-foot long bar equipped with 40 taps! Along with the Deschutes Sacramento Street Pub‘s delicious brews, you’ll be entertained by performances from local favorites Humble WolfHans & the Hot Mess, and Drop Dead Red. The cherry on top of this street party is that a Deschutes has paired up with Runnin’ for Rhett to help raise awareness of their “Move Into Life” campaign.

New November:
After drinking beer, be it be food or drink, I need some sort of refreshment. Luckily, Sun & Soil Juice Company is just a few blocks away. I’ll be grabbing a few of their organic juices for the road because they are oh, so tasty! After juicing up, I’ll head around the corner to the Elliot Fouts Gallery to check out the New Work exhibit. This exhibit features some colorful creations from a quartet of cool artists.

A Twofer:
The next stop on my 2nd Saturday journey will take me up to the Viewpoint Photographic Art Center to check out their two exhibits! They are featuring Roberta Bailey’s Imperfect Perfection: Floral Portraits and Kerik Kouklis’ The Alchemist’s Vision. These two photographic visionaries have breathtaking contrasting styles. Bailey’s images are vivid macro images of flowers; while Kouklis’ images are dark and grainy shots of people and places. After exploring two different spectrums of the photography, I plan to decompress a bit at LowBrau. There’s always a great list of beer to choose from so you won’t be disappointed.

Decision time:
After all the art funsies, it will be time to head back into the music world. It’ll be tricky since there are two great shows in town on Saturday (not that it’s a bad thing). Both Gardens & Villa and Too $hort are shows that I really want to check out. Gardens & Villa will be playing their special blend of indie rock at Harlow’s, while Too $hort will be showcasing why he was, “born to mack,” at Ace of Spades.
