Sacramento International Film Festival’s popular Fashion on Film event returns for a well-deserved encore tomorrow night at the Delta King. Debuting earlier this year at Sacramento Fashion Week, this mixer, fashion demonstration and short film exhibition puts a spotlight on Sacramento’s burgeoning fashion scene.

I was lucky enough to attend the haute party last February and it’s not one to be missed. Throughout the evening, guests will get a behind the scenes look at the movers and shakers behind this year’s Sacramento Fashion Week in seven short films. However, the glitz and glamour won’t just be on screen. In between films, models will parade in local designer gowns & ‘fits inspired by classic movies — the costume and makeup artistry is more than impressive. A posh after party and surprise celebrity cameo is promised as well (he’s intergalactic!)

The redux of Sacramento International Film Festival’s Fashion on Film happens this Friday at 7:30pm on the Delta King. For more details on this fashionable affair, visit the Sacramento365 event page.

My friends and I piled into the car (I know, I know, you’re supposed to bike) and took the short trip out of Midtown to watch the hilarious mockumentary Best in Show outside on the big screen at REEL: Bike-in Theater. This ages-21-and-up, bike friendly, dog friendly, free outdoor theater is the perfect low-cost activity for a date night or fun with a group of friends. Bring a chair to sit on or a blanket to spread out, and supplement your free entry with $5 beer and $3 fries (plus other food truck goodies).

The series continues with Waste Land on Thurs, Sept 20 and Snatch on Thurs, Oct 4.

Event of the Day: Reel

Reel: Bike-in TheaterStarting today, and continuing on every 1st and 3rd Thursday through October, is Reel, a new event at The Greens Hotel on Del Paso Boulevard. Set up outdoors, there will be a bike-in theater (complete with free bike parking), plus food trucks, a beer garden, pop up shops, and DJs. Screening different films each time, Reel kicks off with Raiders of the Lost Ark. What a night! Bring your friends (ages 21+ only), your pup (if you have one), and watch Indy do his thing–all for free–though you’ll likely be tempted into scrumptious food & beer, or cute, crafty purchases, too.

Event of the Day: Special Screening: Shut Up and Play the Hits

Shut Up and Play the Hits film posterAs a precursor to the six-day Launch Festival next week, Launch Events is bringing a one-night-only screening of Shut Up and Play the Hits to the Crest Theatre this evening, beginning at 8pm (arrive when the doors open at 7pm to enjoy tunes spun by DJ Whores & head to KBar post-screening for an afterparty with Shaun Slaughter).

The film chronicles LCD Soundsystem’s frontman James Murphy in the days leading up to (and during) the band’s final concert. As LCD Soundsystem’s electronic-y dance punk sound got me through a good portion of my college years, I was as sad as most when LCD Soundsystem announced their break up last year. Luckily we can all still revel in their sound (listen to one of my favorites below) with this new documentary!
